May 15th SSPYSA Updates
Thank you all SO much for your patience as we have all waited for our state and community to provide guidance to youth sports associations on prudent caution for the safety of our players, families & community during this pandemic. As state restrictions begin to relax we are coming to terms with what reasonable expectations for activity will be.
Though the governor has lifted the stay at home order, and is allowing gatherings of 10 or less, he has clarified that this does not include youth sports. The administration has committed to providing us guidance by June 1st. We are eager for a path forward for our traveling teams to begin meeting for practices in the near future. We expect additional information from our sponsoring organizations in the next few days on recommended safety precautions and a timetable. We have also reached out to the city parks & rec department regarding a timeline they are comfortable with for us to begin preparing fields for play. We fully expect that activity will resume in phases, and that additional steps toward normal activity will correspond with unique restrictions and variations from our normal standards. We have also come to the realization that we cannot expect to execute our recreational soccer league this spring/summer in a way that meets our high standards for programming. We want to meet your expectations of value, and we feel that the best way to do that right now is to postpone the season. Plans are already in the works to move our rec soccer program toward autumn, and we will communicate those plans as soon as we are able. With that, there are several more important updates: REC LEAGUE REFUNDS: We fully understand that you did not sign up for fall soccer, and if you prefer to cancel your registration at this time, we will honor full refunds at this time. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the names of your registered player & a request to cancel your registration, and we will issue refund checks. If you do not request a refund, we will assume that you intend to maintain your registration for the upcoming fall schedule. FALL REGISTRATION: Once our finalized plans for our fall recreational league are announced, we WILL re-open registration to provide an opportunity for those of you who did not sign up this spring, with all the prevailing uncertainty. Even if you request a refund now, you will be able to sign up for the fall season, if that fits into your family budget and schedule. As always, our goal is for as many kids as possible to have the opportunity to enjoy the sport. SUMMER CLINICS: Because of the fluid nature of guidance on public activity, we thought it was more practical to plan for small group format clinic offerings this summer. This will allow our coaches and volunteers to provide soccer activities for kids to enjoy in a more controlled environment, with flexibility to adjust scheduling and activities based on changes to state & local protocol. Please watch for announcements regarding these events in the coming weeks.
TRAVELLING LEAGUE: TCSL has provided guidance that they are still expecting some format of competitive league play this summer, and as such we will continue to keep our coaches and families informed of updates. You should have had several team meetings with your coaches this spring, and our director of coaching has been very active in providing resources & ideas to get kids training remotely, especially now that the weather has improved. If you have not heard from your coach, or are looking for additional training resources, please reach out to me and I will connect you to the right people.
